Activity: Acting Out Poetry - Select a favorite poem and display for the children to see. Follow along left to right as you read the poem and children act out the words. Encourage children to take turns "reading" the poem using the tracking motion of following along with the words left to right.
Skill Learned: The child is learning left to right recognition, an important tracking skill for early reading abilities. Children are also learning to rhyme words, which later transfers into letter recognition.
